Here, at Alena Hume, we work with our clients to make them feel the most beautiful on their wedding day. With extensive experience in the bridal sector, we’ve encountered a diverse range of clients; every shape, every self-esteem challenge, and every medical condition imaginable has been part of our journey.
Knowing that many brides aim to reduce wedding planning stress by being well-prepared and informed, we've put together a quick summary to help you through a typical consultation.
Alena Hume is located in central Palmerston North, next to The Plaza shopping complex. The Churchyard Health carparks are available for use. You will find us in the courtyard behind Bridal Studio. When you arrive, please make your way through the carpark towards the wrought-iron gate. Please ring the door bell on arrival, particularly if the room is occupied.
Upon being greeted, you will be invited into the fitting room where your appointment will be held. We have a private space with a couch for entourage and a curtained off area for changing. We will close off the curtain to give you privacy to step into your gown. When you are ready, we will assist you to do up the closure, put on your shoes and position you with a front and back view.
Lets talk about your garment!
We will assess the fit and design of the gown and make suggestions on how to remedy any issues. This is the best time to discuss any concerns you have. The more open you are, the easier it is to find the perfect solution. If you have design queries, we have a selection of samples that allow us to show examples of different necklines, sleeve options or detail.
An estimate of costings is prepared while you wait and any undetermined amounts are explained and discussed. The initial pinning can be done during this appointment if you chose to continue with our services. We will use safety pins where the gown needs alterations. This process can be a little intimate, often working closely down the side of the body. If you ever need a break or have any questions, please ask.
After removing any accessories and shoes, we will help you back behind the curtain, undo your closure and leave you to change. A follow up appointment will be booked and a deposit taken, emails sent for your records. If you have any questions, please reply to the emails.

Yes, we can repair your gown post-wedding, but we only take major repairs during winter. Get in touch with us to check availability.
-
Yes, we love restoring heirloom veils. We can advise on cleaning and repair any tears at your consultation. Our favourite is removing the floral headpiece from Mum’s veil to create a timeless cutie.
-
We can definitely help with that. Please bring the gown or item to the consultation and we can see what you might like to add.
-
We recommend that you go more with comfort than style for your wedding shoes, as you will be standing most of the day.
If you remove your shoes straight after your ceremony, your hem will drag on the ground for the rest of the day. If you want to swap shoes during the day, try to pick shoes that are a similar height.
-
We recommend nude seamless underwear - especially under fitted dresses. For chaffing, a short leg can do wonders. We are happy to give advice during your appointments.
